1980-1990

Following commercial success in the U.S., such as Melt Extract (ME) fibres, a U.K. business was formed to support the European market. In 1982, Fibre Technology Ltd. was formed and a manufacturing plant set-up in Nottinghamshire.

Notable projects that utilised significant quantities of stainless-steel fibres at that time included the façade of the HSBC Head Quarters in Hong Kong. Fibres were supplied for reinforcement of the launch pads used for each of the Apollo space missions.

During this period funding was secured to develop another more specialised rapid solidification process, which was named Melt Overflow (MO) and various patents were filed for certain novel aspects.
